Cuscowilla at Lake Okonee, America's best resort

Tourism is now the second largest industry in Georgia and at the end of the 2004 Governors Conference on Tourism, Governor Purdue announced the six 2004 Tourism Award winners. Amongst them was IAGTO member Andrew Ward, General Manager from Cuscowilla Golf Resort on Lake Oconee, which has been honored by Golfweek Magazine as the #1 Best Residential Golf Course in America in 2004. The magazine took the 100 Top Residential Courses in the Nation and included seven Georgia courses.
Golfweek has published an annual list of golf course rankings since 1997. Its Team of over 300 raters perennially scour the Country in search of the best courses and use strategic considerations of shot making, design balance, aesthetics, and conditioning when rating a course. Each course listed in the Top 100 must be visited by at least 10 raters to be eligible for a ranking, which is then calculated using a statistically rigorous process over a total of 10 different criteria.
The full list of the Top 100 Residential Golf Courses in order of their rank is featured in the October stand alone issue of Golfweek Magazine. Editorial features focus on real estate trends and progressive real estate communities. "The "walk in the park" test proved crucial for all 100 of the courses mentioned, and Cuscowilla certainly comes out top in that criterion", announced Andrew Ward General Manager of Cuscowilla. "We are thrilled to be honored this year with the #1 spot having been rated the #2 Best Residential Course in America last year. When you look at the other 99 courses on the list we are very proud of the acknowledgement this accolade brings to our Club by rating us the best of them all" continued Ward.
The other six Georgia courses on the Top 100 list included Reynolds Plantation, Great Waters (#52); The Oconee Course at Reynolds (#56); The National Course at Reynolds (#69); Harbor Club, Greensboro (#82); Landings at Skidaway Island Deer Creek (#90); Osprey Cove, St. Marys (#97). This is further confirmation that Georgia's Lake Country is now one of America's golfing treasures with five of the Top 100 courses all within a five mile radius.
Cuscowilla Golf Club is a semi-private resort open for daily fee play and is just over an hour east of Atlanta on Lake Oconee, Georgia's second largest lake. The course is relatively new opening in 1998 and the design team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw created natural golf
. The 400 homesite lots range from two acre estate golf course lots to wooded interior lots and even our newest release of Lakefront property. Each lot at Cuscowilla gives one the opportunity for a home with a distinct personality and possibilities. Great golf is just the beginning at Cuscowilla."
