Open till 2002, the SOFITEL Buenos Aires is a top class hotel member of the Leadings Hotels of the World, reflecting the French "art de vivre". It is located in the picturesque downtown neighbourhood of Retiro, amongst the art galleries and antiques shops of the famous Arroyo Street , near the Plazza San Martin and the main embassies.
This carefully restored landmark building erected in 1929 has a unique architecture : a central tower of 20 floors with two adjacent buildings of 7 floors which evoke an enormous lighthouse overlooking the city.
Known as " Bencich Tower ", it was previously built by a rich ship owner who wanted to overlook the river and the port to be able to see his ships sailing into the Rio de la Plata .
For the renovation, the neoclassical style has been chosen to enhance the historical value of the building and match the elegant Art Deco of the interior. It is a contemporary French design combined with Argentine tradition and the new Sofitel became rapidly the place where to say in Buenos Aires .
Selected by Conde Nast and Best Hotels Magazines, Sofitel Buenos Aires offers 144 bedrooms including 28 suites and one apartment which covers the entire 17th floor. Elegantly decorated in pastel colours with comfortable mahogany furnishings, all room feature spacious marble bathroom with separate glass enclosed shower and is fully equipped: telephones, voice mail, dedicated data line, high speed internet, etc...
Le Sud Mediterranean Restaurant is managed by French chef Thierry Pszonka. The bar « Café Arroyo » is designed in the traditional Portenos cafés and "The Library" where to relax reminds Argentine history and art. Fitness centre, swimming pool, gift shop in the hotel. As many Sofitel of Accor Group, golfers are very welcome.
Four comfortable and elegant main meeting rooms are dedicated to corporate and social events. They are named after the pionnier pilots of the famous Aeropostale : Saint-Exupéry, Mermoz, Guillaumet and Daurat.

Food and beverage : Argentinean beef is world known for being the best. Try a bife de lomo (sirloin steack) with chimi-churi sauce or parilladas. In the estancias, they serve also the traditional grilled pork for lunch.
But seafood is also very good like the famous Ushuaia span carbs or the mariscos in tasteful chowders. At La Cucina or Tia Elvira in Ushuaia.
Argentinean wines offer flavors and styles as diverse as its geographic settings. They are mainly good and cheaper than many other.
