Sandy Lane, best golf resort 2006

The Sandy Lane golf resort at Saint-James (Barbados) has been awarded Best golf resort of the year 2007 by the International Association of Golf Travel Operators at the Gala Dinner of the 9th International Golf Travel Market which took place at Merbella (Spain) in November 2006.

Winners of Brazil at the Foortball World Cup 1986 in Mexico , Platini and all the French team came to Sandy Lane Hotel at Saint-Fames ( Barbados ). This paradise resort in the Caribbean had already got its solid reputation under the banner of Sir Forte. This Italian tycoon, golf impassionate, became Lord of Ripley after creating the luxurious English hotel chain, Trust House Forte, around world wide championship courses renowned for their spectacular sites. At the end of Sandy Lane 's course, a tee box located on the hill offered a superb panoramic view.

Before yesterday, it was Tiger Woods who came in 2004 to marry Elin Nordegreen, and yesterday, from 5 to 10 December, the best golfers have played for the 53d edition of the World Championship. After the death of Sir Forte, new owners took place in Sandy Lane . The hotel has still the same genuine and original architecture but the golf course has been completely redesigned par one of the most famous architects, Tom Fazio. Nowadays there are three courses, the Olde Course which still runs on the ancient property but has been reduced to 9 hole, the 9 other having been included in the 18 of the Country Club Course. The last one has been opened for the Championship and wears the name of the local monkey, the Green Monkey, located son an ancient quarry with spectacular views over the sea.

Barbados is an independant nation island of 430 km² located West of Atlantic Ocean but East of Caribbean sea. It is part of the "small Antilles" with the Grenadines, Saint-Lucie and Saint Vincent . Bridgestone is the capital and the country counts 280.000 inhabitants. It is a developed country, well literate, ranked at the 30 th place for human development.
Subtropical climate with a dry season ending in March-April with the arrival of downpour rains at the end of each day.
Air links are much easier from Anglo-Saxons countries.
