CANADA
Pacific Golf round Vancouver (BC)
Where to play
LThe
Vancouver region is a real paradise for golfers as well as
the whole BC province and it is a sufficient reason in itself
for an addicted golfer to cross oceans and the Canadian continent.
There is a large choice of courses and the environment gathers
the three criteria of good golf living: golf, gastronomy and
tourism.
The
wide range of mountain, valley and links courses scattered
throughout the province bear the signatures of many of the
world’s most famous architects.
Vancouver itself counts more then fifty courses at about 30
to 45 minutes from the city and the Vancouver island has another
fifty.
Many
courses are located along the coastline. Some of them are
Scottish links like the famous “Victoria
Golf Club” while others, most recent are
spectacular with breathtaking views and shapes like Furry
Creek at 30’ North from Vancouver (the
14th is the signature with a green elongated jutting the sound
of Horseshoe Bay and its ferries traffic to Vancouver Island.
Inland,
courses are not less spectacular with their snow-capped mountains
scenery. Whistler Golf Club resortin
the Coast Mountains is the greatest example with three championship
courses designed by three “monsters”: Arnold Palmer
in 1982, Trent Jones Junior in 1988 and Jack Nicklaus in 1995.
In other courses, water is everywhere like at Mayfair
Lakes Golf and Country Club at Richmond or Olympia
View Golf Club with its two cascades while Westwood
Plateau snakes in the forests. Some like the
very select Shaughnessy are totally
private but many are open to public like the two in-city courses
of the Vancouver University where
it is not necessary to be student to have accès at
affordable prices. Natural surroundings, young ambiance, warm
welcome and good pros.
East of Vancouver, Okanagan Lake
is a marvellous country of BC. Climate is milder et sunnier
than anywhere else in British Columbia and tourism explode
in this country which hosts the best vineyards and produced
the best mileage of Canada wines. If the golf courses deserve
a visit, it not less advised to follow the “wineries
road”.
There
is a lot to discover in this beautiful province and one can
find an abundant literature distributed by the Canada, BC,
Vancouver and local tourism offices as well at hotels’
conciergerie or libraries. BC is so diverse that whatever
is your handicap, wish or budget you will find what you want.
