to play
The Czech Republic country, smaller than Kansas in the US but larger than Panama, counts already 54 clubs with 15 18-holes and 39 9-holes and 17 new 18-holes are under project.
Highly recommended by the Prague Four Seasons Hotel to its guests, the Praha Karlstejn Golf Club is located at about thirty minutes drive from the capital. Designed by the Canadian duo Les Furber and Jim Eremko, the course was open in 1993, set amid beautiful scenery with the romantic backdrop of majestic Karlstejn castle. The wooded hilly landscape is an oasis of peace and quiet, with limestone outcrops and rich flora and fauna. Within this pleasant environment, the challenges of broken terrain, natural gorges, two lakes and many sand traps will satisfy even the most demanding of players. Designed to offer an "easy bogey" but "difficult birdie", the course ensures that players with very different handicaps can play with equal enjoyment. Exceptional view from the very cosy club house and terrace.
The first Czech centennial course is the Royal Golf Club Marianske Lazné at Marienbad, well known spa city. It is the most English of all Czech golf clubs. Just for the year of club`s 100th Anniversary, dramatic reconstruction of the clubhouse interiors have been accomplished (better bar, restaurant, cloakrooms, reception, pro-shop and virtually better everything) to drag players back to the course. The Marianske Lazne Golf Club course is an example of golf architecture from the end of 19th century. The course lies on an upland plain 787 meters above sea level, built under the governance of Scottish professional Duig. It was opened in 1905.
The greens are relatively small (but well protected by bunkers), especially when compared with newly built courses. Most of the course lies on a plain terrain out of the n°7 with its spectacular uphill green behind the bunkers. It seems to be easy at first sight. However, players find many hazards like on the 16 th where they lie at the fall of a the drive which has to be very straight between two range of trees
It is surrounded by a pine forest so that even on very hot days, it is a fine place to be. The surrounding picturesque landscape is natural, not harmed by any construction nor buildings. The air is full of oxygen so that it is a real cure for golfers' lungs.
Established in 1904, the oldest golf club in the Czech Republic is today based at the Karlovy Vary golf course, Olsova Vrata. Designed by architect Noskowski in 1931 and created in 1932, the golf course reflects the highest contemporary standards, with completely reconstructed tee boxes, an irrigation system and a clubhouse. By undergoing this massive rebuilding till 1996, the Karlovy Vary golf course wants to become one of the more prestigious European golf establishments.
