Golf

to 6000 year old! Egypt is with China the eldest civilization.
So well organized and so prestigious
that
it became the cradle of all our civilizations even the most
modern lifestyles! In exchange, Egypt borrowed from modernity
cars (Cairo drivers are known for their day and night double-
touch hooting) and golf, which, even if a course lays just
in front of the Gizeh pyramid, has not been invented by the
Pharaohs.

Facing the Cheops pyramid from the second tee of Mena House
course, one can remember the famous Napoleon’s jest
to his soldiers: “from the top of this pyramid 4000
years look at you”! If his military expedition was not
a success, on the other hand his inventory mission of Egyptian
historical treasures, the first of its magnitude, made by
his team of hundreds of scientists is still considered as
the basic stone of the revival of ancient Egyptian story and
the birth of an attractiveness called nowadays tourism..
The Sphinx, the Nile, pyramids and temples in Memphis, Karnak,
Luxor, Asswan, Abu Simbel, royal tombs in the valleys of Kings
and Queens have drained off archaeologists from around the
world as well as millions of tourists curious about discovering
relics of such a prestigious past.
The Pharaohs monuments have drawn travellers to this country
since long before the birth of Christ (Greeks, Romans, Turks,
Christians, Islamic…) to admire the profusion of art
and architecture accumulated during millenniums of successive
dynasties. Nowadays old ruins stand still beside mud-brick
villages where folk in flowing robes drive quiet asses loaded
with wicker baskets while muezzin summons the faithful to
prayer and a lazy punt sails down the Nile. Out of the jammed
cities, folks still trek across the sands on camels.
Egypt is home of human genuine history and here time is not
money. So if service is a bit slow or traffic really jammed,
never loose the local sense of humour, the famous Egyptian
I B M : Inch Allah, (thanks God) Boukhra (to morrow), Maalesh
(maybe)! And enjoy your visit to royal treasures or your golf
along the Nile or the Red Sea under the year round sunshine
of God Rhâ!
With already a dozen courses and as many in project, M Ahmed
El Maghrabi, ministry of Tourism, wants to put Egypt on the
map of international golf destinations considering that golf,
conducted in very professional ways (designers, managers…),
will be part of the strategy of a successful development of
tourism in Egypt for the ten coming years.
