In a recent brochure, the Tourism Board of Gran Canaria estimated that, over the years, tourism would eventually become the main source of income for the island which would become one of the main tourist destinations of the world.

Nowadays, with more than 2 million tourist landing each year on the island, Gran Canaria offers more than 150.000 room and new hotels and residencies are on building everywhere. So that every body can find here the kind of accommodation that he looks for.

Meliā Hoteles, the great Spanish worldwide chain, is naturally the most important hotel settler in Gran Canaria with four locations: Sol Barbacān at Playa Ingles, Meliā Las Palmas and Meliā Confort Iberia at Las Palmas, and Melia Tamarindos at San Agustin.

Situated on the waterfront along the peaceful beach of San Agustin, the location of the Meliā Tamarindos is perfect for golfers : it is just at the geometrical point of the main courses and near to the most recent (Salobre and Anfi Tauro) which all can be reached through the Highway 1 avoiding the traffic mess at the peak times. Last but not least, it is at less than thirty minutes from the airport.

Meliā Tamarindos offers 320 spacious room with all modern comfort opening on terraces overlooking the sea over the gardens and the pools. The restaurant serves excellent local and international cuisine, ā la carte or delicious buffet with show-cooking and at the poolside, snacks and salads.

The hotel hosts also the only Casino in the south of Gran Canaria and entertainment is guaranteed without stepping out of the hotel at the famous Casino Palace Dinner Show with girls, music and dance.
The hotel provides also all kinds of facilities for meetings, seminars, presentation and banquets.

Eating out
Canarian gastronomy is mainly based on seafood which can be found in any local restaurant where daily special are often drawn on slate boards at very affordable prices. Don't hesitate to enter small restaurants along fisher harbours like La Fregata at Puerto Mogan. Fish is fresh and grilled or fried served with small boiled potatoes and a local sauce called "mojo". Simple but delicious!

At one kilometre from the hotel, the restaurant Los Pescadores serves, on a terrace facing the ocean, fish and seafood as you like it (even the famous Navajos for those who like that very special seafood).

The Canary islands produce also local wines mainly white and the famous malvoisia which has a very special taste.
And for those who like smoking, Canarian cigars made of local tobacco are mainly available at any restaurant.
