Sophia
Antipolis, golf science in the science park

The St-Philippe Golf Club & Academy comprises a training
zone of two tier driving range with 40 bays (26 are covered
and 14 open bays on a second level) and is floodlit for night
practicing. The 2,5 hectares target zone includes 3 greens,
multiple bunkers at different distances, a lake and 9 tees
positioned around creating situations alike on a real course
Good
golf is easy
Five pros,
English and French speaking are under the authority of John
Norsworthy, a British pro of the sixties who lives and teaches
golf in South of France for many years and is the managing
director of the Academy. He used to say that “good golf
is easy” based on natural instinct and automatisms.
Combined with computerized digital video and the sophisticated
software Dartfish dedicated to the swing analysis, beginners
make fast progress in golf practicing.
Different golf
schools and clinics are available for junior to senior with
or without handicap. For beginners, short training courses
are dedicated to initiation or improvement and a special teaching
programme proposes to reach the “green card” in
only five months. Another appreciable service is the possibility
to try different clubs under the critical eye of a pro to
make the choice easier or to determine if the clubs fit to
the player.
For the time
being some of the upcoming young PGA pros come regularly at
St-Philippe for training and improvment. With the new Club-house
and its large terrace looking the mountains and new amenities
all around, St-Philippe is on the way to become, as Sophia
Antipolis in science research, an excellence paragon in golf
academy.
And meanwhile
waiting for the opening of its own hotel residence, St-Philippe
is located at driving distance from the Accor Groups main
Hotels Novotel, Mercure and Sofitel which provide accomodation
for those who want to stay there for a few days.
