Bali, Batam, Bintan
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with 17508 islands located between the Asian continent and Australia . The largest islands are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (part of Borneo), New Guinea (shared with Papua) and Sulawesi . It counts over 80.000 kms of coastline along warm tropical seas.
Tropical climate, high humidity (80%) abundant rainfall, Indonesia has the world's second reserve of biodiversity (after Brazil ). Tiger, rhino, orangutan, elephant, leopard are part of the local fauna. Forests cover 58% of the territory but are logged at rapid rates by Chinese, Korean, Japanese, mainly for their rarest species.
Indonesia has immense natural resources but is still a developing country : with a BNP of $1110 per capita the country rank at the 113 th position.
Highly populous (over 200 million), Indonesia faces serious ecological issues, which are often given a lower priority due to high poverty levels and weak governance. Issues include: large-scale illegal deforestation and related wildfires causing heavy smog over parts of western Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore ; over-exploitation of marine resources; and environmental problems associated with rapid urbanization : air pollution, traffic congestion, garbage management... Habitat destruction threatens the survival of endemic species identified by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) as threatened or critically endangered like the Sumatran Orangutan .
The capital city is Jakarta ,. Yojakarta is known for its monumental Borubodur temple, one of the seven wonder of the world, and Bali , a world preferred tourist destination..
