On the Southern Royal Golf Road

Where to play

From Casablanca international airport, the Royal golf road goes North to Tangier and Tetouan and back to the Royal cities Fes and Rabat. South it drives to Marrakech, other Royal city, and after a step to the door of the desert at Ouarzazate, to Agadir on the coast line along which to come back passing along the coast throug and El Jadida. And all along Sofitel Hotels from Accor Group offer all sort of golf packages, linked with thalassotherapia at the seashore placces

Coming out from the international airport of Casablanca, the highway goes to Marrakech, the southern capital which the snow white peaks of the sumptuous Atlas mountains give a magical attraction. Here, at about the same time as in Tangiers in 1920, where open the first golf holes in Morocco which became later the Royal Golf. Today Marrakech has already three 18-holes and some others are in project.

The Royal Golf has been built by the Pacha of Marrakech. Constantly renovated and modernized, it was one of the favourite course of His Majesty King Hassan II. Understandable! Playing that course located at the feet of the Atlas mountains is a sort of magic. It a pleasure to walk along the cypress, eucalyptus, palm, olive, orange, apricot trees and flower bushes. The natural beauty obliges to be concentrated to avoid the trees and bushes. The par-3 of the 15th is known as “Brigitte Bardot” because the green hides behind two small round mounds around a bunker. And high palm trees cut the angles. Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George, Ike Eisenhower where among the vip’s who played here, The club-house is under renovation.

Along the exit road from Marrakech to Casablanca, the Golf de la Palmeraie is as well known as the Palmeraie where it has been designed by Robert Trent Jones who made here a small masterpiece facing the Atlas mountains. This links of 6200 metres snakes in a large valley with thousands of palm trees and is adorned with seven lakes where frolic ducks, herons and ibis. The course receives regularly professional tournaments, but several tees allow players of all levels to enjoy this wonderful flat course easy to walk along. In the hearth of the course stays the club-house, magnificent Moorish house with ochres walls and green varnished tiles which terrace is facing the Atlas mountains.

On the exit road to Ouarzazate, facing the Royal Golf, an Egyptian triumph arcade is the entry of the Amelkis Golf resort. There lies the last creation of Cabell Robinson designer of El Jadida Sofitel Golf and Golf des Dunesl at Agadir. It is a tough Californian style course set in an extraordinary landscape where the beauty of the snow capped Atlas mountains blends in the Mediterranean panorama of olive and palm trees. It is a magnificent 18 holes course punctuated by groves of palms and papyrus reeds. Its challenging holes will enthrall the most demanding golfers with its bunkers, rolling terrain, water traps and exotic rough. The course has integrated the "khettaras", 11th century irrigation works built by Almoravides hydraulics experts. The result is a complex of subtle difficulties, situated in an enchanting setting to help you forget your handicap.
