GOOD TO KNOW

Mexico is a great country, with a great history, its own culture and languages (even if Spanish is the official language) and visitors have to be aware about the special peculiarities of the country: money, obligation, security, transportation...

How to get in
 :
Even if there are many direct flights to Mexican states international airports ( Acapulco , Cancun, Colima, Guadalajara , Monterey , Oaxaca , Vallarta, etc, etc…) coming mainly from the Americas , Mexico is the main entrance for the long distance flights.

And AeroMexico is the national career member of Skyteam ( Aeroflot , AeroMexico , Air France-KLM , Alitalia , CSA Czech Airlines , Delta Air Lines , China Southern Airlines , Continental Airlines , Northwest Airlines et Korean Air ).

Inside the country

For domestic transportation, the majority of connections go through Mexico City . But flights have been left by large carriers to smaller which avoid this inconvenience.

The most common mode of public transport is the bus. Long-distance buses are fairly comfortable, air-conditioned and fast. Local rural buses are more ancient and sometimes more. Combis , colectivos and peseros are cheaper minibuses for local transport

Visas: Citizens of many countries - including the USA , Canada , Australia , New Zealand , Japan , Argentina , Chile and virtually all western European countries - do not require visas to enter Mexico as tourists. However, if they are staying longer than 72 hours, or are travelling beyond the Border Zone or certain exempted areas, they must obtain a 180-day Mexican government tourist card (tarjeta de turista) , available from embassies or at border crossings 18.00.

Health
: no special obligation.

Security : As the Indian peaceful demonstration in the street of Mexico , the population is not particularly violent but visitors have to be prudent moreover when passing through certain poor parts of the cities. No lonely walks, be careful of your bags and pockets (pickpockets are very skilful particularly by youngsters in market places or crowded streets and shopping centres…).

Money
: the Mexican peso ( MXN or $ ) is the National Mexican money but its sign similar to the USdollar $ introduces confusion in the pricing and paying. Visitors have to be careful and not confuse peso and dollar: the difference is about 1 to 10!

Driving : Hiring a car is very easy with a national driving licence and the passport. But driving is not always a pleasure as Mexican drivers are unforeseeable to the respect of the driving code and, out of the main roads and streets, the signalization is poor or doesn't exist. Some people recommend not to go out from the cities centres and the highways.

Police is present in many places. Don't try to escape if they want you to stop, it could be very dangerous not to do it. Be humble and try to chat…

Electricity : 127V, 60Hz
Weights & measures: Metric system

The nacked and the dead
No not Norman Mailer's famous novel. Just the Indian and Mexican behaviour before the nakedness and the death.

This nacked Indian woman is strolling quietely in the centre of Mexico right to the Bellas Artes Museum. She was part of a tribe (all nacked) protesting for their rights. Nobody was shocked... even the police.Congratulation for their tolerance!
*

Indigenous peoples of Mexico believed that the souls of the dead return each year to visit with their living relatives - to eat, drink and be merry. Just like they did when they were living. So Mexican see the skull as a symbol of life and today, these macabre evocations and similar items fill the shops and candy stall.

  Cancun, Atlantic side
  Guadalajara , Spanish cradle
  Puerto Vallarta, Pacific side
  Punta Mita, numer one?
