MEXICO :
PUNTA MITA, the best world resort...

The Punta Mita Resort is completely integrated in the natural environment.

Punta Mita, November 2007
Four Seasons has the chic for finding Gods blessed magic sites to create the most shimmering resorts. Punta Mita on the Mexican Pacific coast near Puerto Vallarta is a good example. The name of Punta Mita comes from the Aztec word “mictlan” meaning “Gateway to paradise”.

In fact, it is an exceptional peninsula ending the Banderas Bay in the ocean where land and sea marry under the tropical sun: the point of simple pleasures.

At 26 miles ( 42 km ) from Puerto Vallarta, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts has established an unrivalled vacation experience on 1500 acres ( 607 ha ) of hilly wooded land which looks like an immense prow cutting through the waves of the Pacific ocean. On the top of the prow, pending on both sides lays the Jack Nicklaus' golf course and the resort's amenities stand
behind the sandy beaches completely integrated in the environment.

The Punta Mita Golf Course is a Jack Nicklaus design. The Golden Bear has used the natural escarpments of the 200 acres ( 80 ha ) tropical flowering landscape of the peninsula to make this course not only a golf challenge for any kind of players (five tee boxes from 5037 to 7014 yards ) but also an enchantment for their eyes by exploiting the natural setting: driving shots from magnificent view points over the Banderas bay (holes 5 to 9) on one side and the Pacific beaches and cliffs on the other side, holes 16 to 18.

The signature is the famous optional 3B or 19 th called the Tale of the Whale . It is a dramatic par-3 featuring a carry over the water of 199 yards ( 182 m ) to reach the green on a rocky natural island! Jack Nicklaus considers it as “ my best golf hole ”! The green is only accessible by low tide along a rocky pathway otherwise a staff member shuttles back and forth in a sort of amphibious cart! Anyway it is an unforgettable experience!

Tail of the Whale is also the name of the snack bar on the upper level of the golf clubhouse, overlooking the course and the ocean. It is the perfect spot for a casual drink or snack after a round of golf or a game of tennis. Open daily for breakfast and lunch. A la carte breakfast and selection of light Mexican specialties, salads and sandwiches or more for lunch. Children's menu available.

Dress code: no cut-offs, swimwear, gym shorts or denim but standard dressing appropriate to the tradition of the game.

The resort features 141 guest rooms called Casita Rooms and 32 suites in Mexican style houses of two or three stories spread around the property between the trees with balcony or private terrace, luxurious Mexican furniture and modern conveniences (air conditioning and ceiling fan, bar, bathroom with twin basins and separate shower, bathrobes, cable remote-controlled TV, coffee maker, computer connections, sliding doors opening to the ocean view, etc…).
The resort features an Apuana Spa (stream of water) with massage treatments in a tranquil setting near a pool far from the children's corner. Fitness centre with technogym equipment ( Cardio Wave machine)
The Cultural Centre in the Lobby is relaxed setting where to find historic treasures of Punta Mita, Banderas bay: books, videos, computers, lectures… Very exciting!

Boutiques, facilities for gala banquets, meetings and private receptions.
Other activities: tennis, trekking, swimming with the dolphins, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and seasonal whale-watching…

Dining is a great time at Punta Mita as the multilingual chef Herve Fucho seasons its French Latin cooking with flavors from around the world, Mexican, Asian, European… It makes the menu very attractive will it be at the open cuisine of the Bahia Beach Grill or at the signature restaurant Armada. His daily specials are focused on fresh local produce. Her are some samples the chef's specialties :

- appetizer: Red Snapper “Cevice Tradition”, Serrano Chili Flakes, Keycap Mains
- entrée seafood:
T eriyaki Glazed Chilean Salmon, Curried White Bean Stew, Basmati Rice, Dusted Crisp Vegetables

- entrée meat :Grilled Pandora Rock Cornish Hen, Braised Lentils, Glazed Root Vegetables, Hibiscus Flower Sauce
- dessert : Tequila Soufflé, Vanilla and Tequila Sauce
For the wines, leave it to the chef, he knows very well its cellar to find the best choice to match with the dishes.
For example theTequila tasting menu offers 5 courses each one with a glass of a different wine. (No after diner driving allowed! Better to smoke a good Mexican cigar at the Nona Bar with live Mexican music. Last but lot least, each week, the Tequila night brings a Mariachi ambiance.
Attire: casual by day but casually elegant venue for diner.

Best resort of the world was the choice of the readers of Condé Nast Travellers 2006.
