Between sea and lagoon

If its neighbour Bellemare Plage with its two courses (Legend and Links) has been awarded Best Golf Resort in 2005 by Iagto's members, it is The Saint-Géran which has been elected Best Hotel of the World.

Favour to the pioneer! Open in 1975, the Saint-Géran has been the first of the modern hotels to settle down on the coast. Besides it got its name from the ship which wracked there on the coral reef in a typhoon in 1774. The French writer Bernardin de St-Pierre wrote the romantic story Paul & Virginie where the young lady disappeared in the waves under the eyes of her lover Paul standing on the beach.

First come, first served! The Saint-Géran was build between ocean and lagoon at the end of the Bellemare peninsula on 25 ha of tropical gardens et 2 kms of white sandy beaches. So that all of the 162 suites (with butler service) face or the ocean or the lagoon. The hotel has been completely renovated in 1999 by the Group One & Only in the respect of the high standards of quality established at the first opening. Therefore it is still the "Grand Dame' of Mauritius .

Alain Ducasse accepting to supervise the Spoon restaurant is also an attraction for a special clientele which wants to taste the most innovative asia-euro-mauritian cuisine of the southern hemisphere. At La Terrasse, local and international meals while Paul and Virginie offers seafood on the beach.

Also pioneer in golf, the Saint-Géran called a great golfer Gary Player to design a 9-holes adjacent to the hotel. It is certainly the most tropical course along the Indian ocean with more than 4000 coconut trees in the same park. The 9 th green is just in front of a flower bushes surrounded pool where a couple of black swans play the stars. Very welcoming club-house.
