MAURITIUS
Greens on the Indian Ocean : South coast

- Le Paradis Hotel and Golf Club*****

is located on the south-west coast, on the 150 ha private peninsula of la Pointe des Pêcheurs. It proclaims it was the first golf resort on the island and that it is the reason why it is located on the best beach site of the island with the Le Morne mountains as background. As a mmater of fact, even if during the years the names have changed, the place is exceptional as exceptional is the offer: two Beachcomber five stars hotels, Paradis and Dinarobin, share the most beautiful beach, equipments (golf, Clarins spa...), services and seven restaurants.
Le Brabant
is the main restaurant serving buffets and is open for all meals. La Palma is Italian. At the deck of the liner Blue Marlin seafood varieties: red tuna, braised Babonne filet. La Ravane (creole music instrument) serves creole cuisine and sega dance. At l'Harmonie at Dinarobin Hotel new cuisine style with islands' flavours. And at Le Morne Plage seafood and lobsters evenings.
From the superior rooms to the private villas scattered along the 7 kms of beaches, the Paradis can accommodate a few hundreds of guests with deep fishing, diving and many sports like golf. And it is recommended to make reservation at the famous Clarins Spa!

Le Paradis Golf Club (18-hole) is the one enjoying the most impressive setting as it is situated both at the feet of the majestic Le Morne mountain and along the seashore. This 18-hole course is a 5,899 m long Par 72. Designed by David Dutton, it departs at 100m from the reception, has five water holes and nine holes along the coast. For its particular scenic views, specially at the 12th green, it has been called 'green on the ocean".
The course is accessible to all residents of any Beachcomber hotels and a new deal has been signed between the three courses: Paradise , Tamarina and Telfair (château Bel Ombre).

- Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort**** is located on the southern west coast at 35 kms from airport and 40 from Port Louis . The resort has been developed on the former sugar estate of the Château Bel Ombre which was created in 1816 by Charles Telfair, a British naturalist, who enhanced the region with social, botanical and engineering innovations .

Following the 1999 sugar crisis, it is an example of economic and human redeployment of this cane monocultural country towards the tourism industry offering new jobs for the local manpower and an hotelier school for the training of the needed personal.

The Telfair Golf & Spa Resort comprises 158 room and suites dispatched in 20 villas of 6 to 8 room between the foothills of Plaine Champagne running down in a sheer drop of over 500 metres and the Indian Ocean. Build on ancient domain, the colonial style has inspired the architecture of the resort even the furniture and the decoration.

The principal restaurant Annabella is more international than Mauritian. But modern style Gin'ja serves very tasteful seafood in a very refined and innovative Asian cuisine. Le Palmier, overlooking the pool, serves mostly snacks et the Chateau Bel Ombre, in the 19th Manor House, surrounded by secular gardens, was the heart of the estate and is dedicated to special events. The Cavendish Bar & Lounge serves cocktails under its coats of arms painted ceiling where music resounds. To avoid it, go to the Library in very comfortable armchairs.
After a round of golf, the Seven Senses Spa is very welcome.

Le Golf du Château de Bel Ombre
(original name of the residence of Charles Telfair), is a championship course which has been designed by the South African architect Peter Markovich on the former sugar cane plantation of 83 ha. Two rivers, strategic bunkers, tricky elevations, water hazards, even blind greens make it a challenging (moreover the 17, dog leg in a ravine and elevated green) in a backdrop of volcanic mountains and splendid views to the ocean. And nec plus ultra, the Château has been integrated to the golf course and is open to golfers for casual lunch or formal dinner.
A 9-hole par-3 is adjacent for short game practicing or beginners. Golf academy. A second course is in mind to make this resort a complete l golf destination.

- The Gymkhana Golf Club

Mauritius being an ancient colony of the British Empire , golf is practiced since 1902 when the Royal Navy members opened the first course, the Gymkhana Golf Club, at Vacoas, one of the rainiest counties of the island. This respectable centennial 18-hole (Par-68 of 4870 m ) does not pretend to compete with modern ones but, it is perfectly maintained and the most affordable as it welcomes non-members by reservation. The Club-house is still British style.
