Asia's Best Golf Destination 2008

On the 6th of December, during the annual awards gala dinner held at the Gran Melia Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, closing the 10th International Golf Travel Market, Malaysia was conferred the '2008 Asia and Australasia Golf Destination of the Year' award from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) .

IAGTO is the global trade organisation for the golf industry, comprising more than 1,040 companies from 73 countries, including 320 specialist golf tour operators in 45 countries. The award also serves to inspire private and public sector organizations to work closely together in the development and promotion of new existing golf destinations.

In fact Malysia has produced large efforts, specially in the year 2007, to improve its infrastructures and security to place the country on the map of international tourism destination.

Kuala Lumpur, the capital, is a modern city which counts about a dozen golf courses but, not easily accessible for visitors as they are mainly reserved to members only. But,
out of capital city, Malaysia counts about 200 courses and received last year 350.000 golfers against RM 723?5 million (US$ 212,8 million) in revenue. Malysia is a large country divided in two parts: the mainland is located on the SouthAsian peninsula between Thailand at North and Singapour at the South end and we have choosen three different places to play and visit:

- Johor Bahru, one of he best resorts on the mainland

- Langkawi, an island on the Anadaman Sea

- Kota-Kinabalu in the Sarawak state, on Borneo island
