Visa : no visa required for stays up to 90 days.

Language : English official working language but the national anthem ' Majulah Singapura ' is sung in Malay. Singlish , is a Singaporean patois mixing English with Chinese, Malay and even Tamil.

Climate : located on the equator, Singapore is constantly hot (temperature never comes below 20°) and humid rainfall is fairly year-round. November to January are less hot but more rainy while May to July are dry and hot.
Air conditioning : mainly too cold (at Changi airport lounges!) and the frequent crossing from outside hot temperature to inside 18° or less is source of sore throats.

Money : S$ Singaporean Dollar - Tipping is not usual

Electricity : 230 v, English plugs (three pales)

Driving : Left driving. National driver's licence is required. Toll restricted central zone

MRT Mass Rapid Transit : superb subway system quick and comfortable 

Police presence is not permanent. But don't expect a special treatment because you are foreign.
Maps : free commercial maps are available in many places but limited to the commercial centre of the city (not very useful to cross the island all around).

Events : Chinese New year (between January and mid-February); World Gourmet Summit (two weeks March-April); Great Singapore Sale (one month, end May to beginning of July); Singapore Food Festival (July-August); Singapore National Day (9 August); Christmas on Orchard Road (November December).
