- How to get there : The
Montevideo’ s Carrasco International Airport is linked
with daily connections to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and
San Paulo, and direct flights to the United States and Europe.
Montevideo is only 20 minutes flight from Buenos Aires. Punta
del Este also has an international airport.
By river or sea :Ferry lines shipping automobiles, some by
high speed boats, link daily Buenos Aires to Montevideo, Colonia,
Piriápolis or Punta del Este.
- When to go : Generally mild year round.
December and January are peak season. Going Uruguay is not
something to do just in a blur, think about it and maybe visit
the neighbouring countries in spring or fall.

poems. In the plates: delicious mariscos served in boiling
cast-iron ramkins. With an Uruguayen sauvignon.
- Visas: In general, visitors do require
a valid passport.
- Currency : The locl unit is the Uruguayan
peso; $ is the official symbol. To avoid the confusion with
the US $, the symbol is followed by the word “peso”.
- Climate : Mild throughout the year. Temperatures
average 70 F to 80 F (21° C to 27° C) in summer and
50 F to 60 F (10° C and 16° C). Occasional cold spells.
Rainfall occurs in all seasons but heavier in the autumn months.
- Living in Uruguay : The country offers
better security than most locations in Latin America and Central
America . There are no racial, religious or other conflicts
and public meetings are generally peaceful.
- Driving in Uruguay : Urugayen drivers are
no Argentinean “Fangios”, nor Chilian “crazy
bus drivers”. Driving is easy and quiet and vehicle
circulation is relatively fluid even in urban centers. Being
a small country, distances are quite short.
- Car documentation : special toll documentation
and international insurance for foreigners entering in Uruguay
with their own car or with a rental car from a foreign country.
