Arizona - USA
Grand Canyon State awarded
Best Golf Destination 2008
Arizona has been awarded Best Golf Destination 2008 for North America by Iagto (International Association of Golf Travel Operators) during the gala diner closing the 10th annual IGTM (International Golf Travel Market) at the Gran Melia Hotel Cancun ( Mexico ).
I have been told that Arizona has as many golf courses as there are sunny days in a year over the Grand Canyon State (which is over 300). I didn't try to verify if it is true, for me, it is believable. Anyway, if there is one state which deserved to be awarded best golf destination, it was indubitably Arizona .
Known as the State of the Grand Canyon (one of the seven wonders of the world), it is obvious that old aeons of earth are written in the walls of the Grand Canyon and the cathedral-like stone of Monument Valley and that the prehistoric ruins of Montezuma Castle and Casa Grande speak about ages of human history.
But, Arizona is not only a spectacular historical part of the USA ; it is also a lively hub of modern life, communication, trade, travel, recreation, between North America and the Pacific rim beginning through the Mother Road 66.
Phoenix is its state capital but, Scottsdale is recognized for years as being one of the premier golf and resort destinations in the world: it is home to the FBR Open Golf Tournament held at the Tournament Players Club which, carries the distinction of the best-attended event on the PGA Tour .
Scottsdale has more then 200 area of golf and it has been cited by the Robb Report as, " America 's Best Place to Live for Golf." The Boulders Resort & Golden Spa and Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North were selected in 2005 as the second and fourth best golf resorts in the nation by Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine. Other notable golf courses in the area include Desert Mountain , Grayhawk, Desert Highlands , and so many others...
Congratulations to Arizonians.
